Quantifying Urbanity
Project type
mapping
Date
December 2024
Cities convey far more than we read. The interactions that occur in public space constitute a dynamic process of continuous exchange and evolution of morphological elements. Mapping this ad hoc functionality aims at highlighting the importance of the permanent ephemera as traces of appropriation of the diligent, as well as catalysts for our perception of urbanity.
Attachments are the elements that adhere to the planned structure. They not only subconsciously contribute on what we percieve as urbanity, but also act as residual documents of usage.
This set of diagrams maps the attachments on facades in a central area of Patras, Greece. Divided in 9 categories and shown through 5 diagrams, can provide useful descreet information, such as propagation, frequency and intensity, as well as continuous, such as residency, environmental awareness, or aesthetics.
